La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Riviera Nayarit
Affectionately called “La Cruz”, this enchanting seaside fishing village is the jewel of the Riviera Nayarit and a prominent symbol of distinctive modern development in the region. Home to the brand new Marina Riviera Nayarit at La Cruz, sailboats and luxury yachts slip in the protection of this south facing shoreline welcoming visitors from all over the world. The La Cruz Yacht Club is open to the public featuring the IKUAI restaurant and lounge and TAIKAI Sky Bar with an impressive 360° view of the bay.
Take pleasure in the small pueblo feel of this quiet beach town with its traditional atmosphere and outdoor farmer’s markets. Each day scores of local fishermen sell their fresh catch at the Marina fish market and are friendly and helpful in picking out the best selection for shrimp cocktails or a fish ceviche. The town is always full of life and especially in early May during the celebration of La Santa Cruz, the patron saint of laborers. The plaza fills with food vendors, miniature rides and fair games, and the main stage features everything from grammar school productions to lively out-of-town bands and dance troupes.
La Cruz is well-known for some of the best food and music in the bay. All within walking distance from our developments, guests at La Joya de Huanacaxtle and Alamar can enjoy comfortable, fine dining in a number of popular restaurants around town. From gourmet Italian fare at Frascati to the new La Cruz Bistro, there is something for everyone. Ana Banana’s near the Marina entrance is a local favorite for live Sunday afternoon music and barbeque. The Hikuri Art Gallery and Café has the best espresso in town and offers outdoor movie nights under the stars. Philo’s Pizza Shack has been drawing tourist and ex-pat crowds for years with Philo’s own folk rock band and local salsa trios.
A new Sunday market has become the talk of the area. Local vendors must pay a small fee to set up a booth and only one type of vendor may sell their wares, so that means just one candy connoisseur, one tamale truck, and only one place you will find that special piece of art. Master artisans and local chefs gather to sell their creations in a lively weekly festival that typically lasts all day.
